Hub's Art

I may not have mentioned it before, but my Hubs is a talented artist himself. He's the one who actually had art classes in high school and college, so he knows way more than I about art. This is a piece of art that he did that is on our fireplace mantle right now. He actually made it as a wedding gift for a friend, but since the wedding was like 5 years ago I'm claiming it as my own. He loves to pick up interesting trash off the ground (which is ironic b/c he's an OCD germ freak) and use it in his art. I love the effect and wish he would do more of it to sell!

This one is over our bed in our bedroom. Hubs thinks this is really funny. For this piece, he and one of his art buddies went on the DART rail train and asked random strange looking people to take their picture. Then he took the pictures and drew them over the trash collage. He's quite the illustrator, don't you think? And there's nothing like strange guys staring at you while you go to sleep. But it's better than a blank wall in my opinion. He has lots more art stashed away in his portfolio under our bed, but these are his most recent pieces. He and one of his best friends used to have "Art Nights" where they would get together and work on their art late into the night. But then his friend moved far away to get his master's degree, so no more Art Nights and no more new art. Hopefully that will change someday though!

The Monster Painting

I am pretty sure I've mentioned on here about me working on a huge painting (4 ft. x 5 ft) for my friends Adrien and Nathan. Well here is the final product! We recycled the canvas from a painting she had done previously, and I wanted to use some sort of woodgrain pattern on it somewhere. But obviously I didn't have a big enough printer to print a large sheet of woodgrain. So I came up with the idea (from a painting Adrien had done) that I would use 2" squares of woodgrain, and make them kind of have the basket weave effect. Since I decided to do that in the center, I wanted the rest of it to be pretty simple so it wouldn't be too busy. This is also inspired by my Zoom series, since it uses the circles and similar colors. I have to say that I love it! I am super happy with the way the woodgrain turned out and the way it all looks together.

This is Adrien and Nathan's living room. Doesn't it look so good in there? They just put down the bamboo flooring too! My hubs is drooling over their cool coffee table too. :)

Anniversary Sale!

Today is my 1 year Anniversary of opening my shop on Etsy! To celebrate, I'm having a sale...buy one print, get one free! (FYI, this is the only sale I have during the year) The sale is going on in both shops, and all you have to do is order the prints you want and wait for me to send you a revised invoice.

Lately I've been working on a new set of prints that I'm really in love with...I can't wait to show you! I've only done 2 so far, and would like to have 4 or 5 when I'm done.

Featured today!

I'm being featured today on Daily Candy Kids Dallas Edition! Yay for features! I could totally get used to them. I'm a little bummed about the painting they chose to feature, since it's one of my lesser favorites, but it'll have to do. Go here to check it out!

Pendants are once again in the shop...

I finally got around to photographing and listing the pendants I currently have made. I am only doing glass tile pendants and am including a chain with them as well. They're $15 each and come in a cute little paper mache box. Check them out!

Kitchen pics!

We have a small galley kitchen, and have done some light remodeling since we moved in 2.5 years ago. As I mentioned in an earlier post, our kitchen was faux wood everything when we moved in and looked awful. We did our updating in phases. We first went in and replaced the countertops, the sink, the cooktop, and microwave. Then early this year we replaced the linoleum floors and repainted. I think it looks pretty good now, much more in line with our decorating tastes. We're hoping to sell this house in a year or so, so hopefully people will like it enough to see past it's small size. There are still a few minor things we need to do, such as baseboards as you can see, but most of the work is done! I am also not an expert decorator, and am still looking for things to put on the other wall by the table and chairs.

Here is the view from one corner of the kitchen by the back window.

This is from the other corner by the back door.

Here is a view of the microwave, oven, and cooktop.

A closer view of my awesome clock I got from here.

A view from the other end of the kitchen. My littlest decided to be in this one with her skates on and carrying her "purse". Any ideas for a window treatment on that window?

A view into our "new" formal dining room. This used to be where my office was, but since we enclosed the atrium, we now use that as our office. I haven't done any decorating at all in the dining room, and I suppose I need to find some proper curtains to go in there before I decide what I want to do. I never thought i'd want a formal dining room, but we use it every night for dinner and now I love it! We are planning to replace the ugly tile with mahogany laminate.

A view from the living room.

You might remember this painting in the bathroom since I have a Marrimeko shower curtain like this in there. I decided that it was too matchy-matchy for my taste and put it in the kitchen instead. I still need to paint something for the bathroom though.

So I'd say that all in all we've spent about $2,000 total on our kitchen since we moved in. We're debating on whether or not to put in granite countertops before we move since we wouldn't need much, but we're going to consult with a realtor at some point to help us figure that out. Did you notice my new flooring? I LOVE it. We got it at Lumber Liquidators (this is the kind we got) and I think it looks perfect. So what do y'all think? Any decorating ideas? I'll try to post pics of our new office soon.
